Francis Michael Hare, 6th Earl of Listowel (born June 28, 1964 ) is a non-party (so-called Crossbencher ) British politician. He is one of the 92 members of the hereditary nobility who retained their seat in the House of Lords under the House of Lords Act 1999 . He comes from the so-called Protestant Ascendancy , the Protestant Anglo-Irish upper class in Northern Ireland .

Life

Francis Hare is the eldest son of William Hare, 5th Earl of Listowel , and his wife Pamela Mollie Day. He attended Westminster School and later studied at Queen Mary, University of London , which he left in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts in English literature. After he had previously held the courtesy title Viscount Ennismore , he inherited the title of Earl of Listowel when his father died in 1997 .

In the House of Lords, he is particularly committed to helping disadvantaged children and young people and is a member of the non-partisan “Parliamentary Group for Children”. He is also a member of the board of trustees and treasurer of the Michael Sieff Foundation , which works to improve children's rights.
