Frank Ostrowski (* 1960 or 1961; † 2011) was a German programmer. He became famous for the developed by him BASIC - interpreter Turbo-basic XL for the Atari 400/800 / XL / XE series and GFA-BASIC for the Atari ST .

Live and act

Ostrowski developed Turbo-BASIC XL during his three years of unemployment following his military service. Compared to the built-in Atari BASIC, it was particularly characterized by its higher speed. He submitted it to the computer magazine Happy Computer in 1985 , which awarded it 'Listing of the Month' and prize money.

Then the company Integral Hydraulics , later known as GFA Systemtechnik , became aware of Ostrowski. From February 1986 he worked there as a permanent programmer and developed the GFA-BASIC for the Atari ST, first as an interpreter, then also as a compiler . Later GFA-BASIC was also implemented for the Amiga , MS-DOS , MS-Windows and Unix . The 32-bit version of this basics for Windows has meanwhile been further developed by the GFA Software Technologies branch, which was spun off from this company .

Ostrowski wrote magazine articles and books about the BASIC products he developed.

Frank Ostrowski died in 2011 at the age of 50 after a serious illness.
