The building was erected around 1935 as part of the Frankenkaserne ; the barracks was named "Nuremberg". The elongated, three-storey clinker building remained in the bombing raid on Stralsund on October 6, 1944 , when the au. a. the neighboring barracks "Leipzig", also built around 1935, were badly damaged.

In the years 1949 to 1950 the building was converted into a school ; It is still used as a school today: it houses the grammar school part of the “School Center on the Sund” .

The building is located on the outskirts of the city ​​area recognized by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage site as part of the “ historic old towns of Stralsund and Wismar ”. It is entered in the list of architectural monuments in Stralsund with the number 214.
