The Salzkottener Maschinenbau GmbH , based in Salzkotten North Rhine-Westphalia is part of the Grimme group . With the brand name Kleine , it specializes in the manufacture of self-propelled harvesting machines and technology for the cultivation and harvesting of sugar beet . The products are sold internationally.

history

In 1874 the company started selling agricultural equipment and machines. In 1904, Franz Kleine , the founder's son, took over the business at the age of 26. In these years the mechanization of agriculture was initiated. Branches with workshops and spare parts stores were created in Westphalia and North Hesse.

Previously, in addition to the repair of agricultural machinery, iron structures, bridges, weirs, rollers, harrows and chopping machines were also manufactured, especially in the winter months when there was little work. An independent machine factory was established in 1947/48 with the construction of a production hall. From this point in time, under the management of Ernst Kleine, who joined the company in 1931, the manufacture of multiple devices, potato machines and sugar beet harvesters began.

In Salzkotten, the company with 110 employees develops and produces machines for harvesting, cleaning and loading sugar beet. The group of companies includes subsidiaries in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine.

Since July 24th, 2012 the company FRANZ KLEINE Vertriebs & Engineering GmbH has been in preliminary insolvency proceedings. On November 12, 2012, the agricultural machinery manufacturer Grimme announced that it would take over Franz Kleine GmbH on November 15, 2012. The company was renamed Salzkottener Maschinenbau GmbH , but the Kleine brand is retained. However, the location will be closed on December 31, 2016.
