Franz Newerkla
Franz Newerkla was an Austrian activist between the wars.
Life
The Newerkla from Wiener Neustadt got involved in the economic crisis of the interwar period for the unemployed and was finally chairman of the self-help association of unemployed Austrians , who drew attention to their situation in numerous campaigns. A demand was made if the state could not create work, for example leaving fallow land or preventing double earnings.
In 1931/1932 Newerkla succeeded in taking possession of a piece of alluvial forest in the area of es Biberhaufenweg in Vienna and populating it with the unemployed, even if everyday life there was characterized by robberies, wood and cattle theft and arson.
Between October 1931 and March 1932 he was the editor of the weekly Arbeiter-Ausgabe - the independent organ of the working people and the unemployed in Austria .
