The Franziska Erbstollen is a tunnel in Witten .

The right to inherit this tunnel was first granted in 1772 and renewed in 1783 and 1823. It served to drain the Franziska , Verlorene Posten , Portbank , Stuchtey , Franziska Continuation, Hamburg and Augustus collieries (see also the United Hamburg and Franziska collieries ). In 1925 the tunnel, in which coal was also extracted, was closed.

As before, mine water flows off via the Franziska Erbstollen . This is ferrous and the water bed is colored orange-brown by the iron (III) oxide hydrate ("iron ocher") precipitated as a result of oxidation .
