The Freiburger Kreis eV is an amalgamation of large sports clubs that currently comprises almost 170 clubs with around 800,000 members with a wide range of sporting and non-sporting activities. It is the largest cooperation between sports clubs at the federal level, founded in 1974 in Freiburg im Breisgau by 21 large clubs.
The prerequisite for membership is proof of at least 2,500 members and full-time management or larger club-owned facilities.
The goals of the association are:
- Help for the member associations also in unconventional ways
- Initiatives in sporting and sport-political structures
- Development of structures
- Improve sports management
