French Vernacular Books
French Vernacular Books (German: Books in the French vernacular language ), symbol FB , one is Bibliography of the University of St Andrews , all on French received printing units from the 15th and 16th century cataloged. The follow-up project French Books is dedicated to the recording of all works published in Latin and other languages in France at the time . Both directories were incorporated into the USTC in November 2011 , which for the first time summarizes all books that were printed in Europe during this period and are still in existence today in a single database.
French Vernacular Books lists a total of almost 52,000 different works, representing approximately 180,000 copies, of which over 100,000 have been personally examined by the bibliographers after the autopsy process . The research extended to more than 1,650 libraries worldwide, 450 of them in France itself. According to its own admission, the project succeeded in locating many previously unknown titles and editions. Approx. 40% of the cataloged books only exist as single copies, over a third are only in collections outside France.
The research results were published in 2007 as a two-volume catalog of short titles by Brill . The French Books, published in October 2011, contains over 40,000 editions.
