Peace of Värälä

The Peace of Värälä ended the Russo-Swedish War 1788–1790 . Gustav III of Sweden started a war against Russia in 1788 , in which he wanted to gain new lands. The course of the war was initially unfavorable for Sweden. The nobility did not want war and opposed it; there was mutiny among Gustav's troops. In a naval victory on July 9, 1790, Sweden was able to destroy a third of the Russian fleet . In the peace treaty, the war is declared over on August 14, 1790 without any territorial change.
