The frigory ( lat. Frigus "cold"; unit symbol : fr ) was a unit of measure used in France before 1960 for the amount of heat in air conditioning and refrigeration technology .

The definition of frigory is based on the definition of the 15 ° C calorie (cal 15 ):

1 fg corresponds to the amount of heat that is released when 1 g of air-free water cools from 15.5 ° C to 14.5 ° C at a constant pressure of 101.325 kPa (the pressure of the standard atmosphere at sea level).

The name of the unit was created by substituting the Latin prefix calor (Latin calor "heat") of the unit calorie with the prefix frigor (Latin frigus "cold"). This makes the contrasting character of the two sizes clear.

Due to their definition, the numerical values ​​of frigory and calorie are identical, but have inverse signs:
