history

Fritz Studer AG was founded in 1912 by Fritz Studer. Today around 800 employees work for today's group of companies.

The first cylindrical grinding machine appeared in 1914 and the first hydraulically controlled cylindrical grinding machine in 1936. Further development steps in 1965 were the hydrodynamic spindle bearings on all machines and a patented machine bed made of Granitan mineral cast. In 1977 the first CNC cylindrical grinding machine was created.

In 2008, Studer and Combitec founded the Internal Grinding Competence Center in Biel with the CT product line.

In 2013, Studer launched the world's smallest production machine, the S11, and won the MWP Award. In 2013, Körber Schleifring and United Grinding Technologies USA became the United Grinding Group . Current development focuses of the company are service, a dual education system in training and further education, as well as the digital management and networking of software, digitization, sensors and coolants as "resources".

In 2014, Studer launched WireDress, a new type of machine-integrated dressing process for wire-erosive dressing of metal-bonded grinding wheels. The process and system were researched and developed over seven years in close cooperation with inspire from ETH Zurich and four other industrial companies. A completely redesigned dressing system came onto the market in 2018.

In 2018, Körber AG sold the United Grinding Group to BZ Bank , based in Wilen SZ. The aim of the investor pool is to invest in "further development opportunities" for the group of companies.
