Frog (surveying)

A frog

In surveying , a frog is a metal plate with claw feet that is used as a stable and non-slip base for the leveling staff during leveling (height measurement) . The frog has one, sometimes two metal hemispheres at the top so that the staff can be placed on a point that is clearly defined in terms of height. The possibly existing second hemisphere is offset in height and is used for the control measurement.
