Soccer in Acapulco

The first team from the Mexican port city of Acapulco in paid football was the Club Deportivo Las Brisas , which in 1967 was one of the founding members of the Tercera División .

In 1974 the city was represented for the first time in the second division when the Club Deportivo Acapulco and Inter de Acapulco joined the Segunda División at the same time . For Club Deportivo Acapulco, the second division adventure ended after just one season (1974/75) with relegation, which also overtook the local rivals one season later (1975/76). However, Inter returned for the 1977/78 season again in the Segunda División, but had to withdraw again for financial reasons at the end of the season.

In 1987, the Guerreros de Acapulco joined the Segunda División 'B' , which had been newly established a few years earlier and which was ranked as a third division between 1982 and 1994. There the Guerreros played first until the 1989/90 season, in which they rose to the second division, and after the immediate relegation again between 1991/92 and 1993/94. Then the Guerreros were a founding member of the Primera División 'A' , which was raised to the rank of a second division in 1994/95. The Guerreros were represented there until the 1996/97 season.

After the Guerreros were relegated after only one season (1990/91) from the Segunda División 'A', the city rival Delfines de Acapulco acquired the second division license from the former first division club CSD Jalisco and played second class in 1991/92. He was also immediately relegated, but he extended his stay in the second division by acquiring the second division license from the promoted Deportivo Abasolo . After the Delfines also lost out at the end of the 1992/93 season and had to relegate again to the third division, they sold their license back to the CSD Jalisco , from which they had acquired it two years earlier.

For the last time the city was represented in the second soccer league between 2002 and 2004, after the former traditional club Marte FC moved into its last station here under the succinct name Club Acapulco before it was dissolved.
