history

The fountain was built in 1910 as a memorial to mark the centenary of Chile's independence ; The memorial was inaugurated on October 13, 1912. The German minority in Chile financed the bronze sculpture designed by the German sculptor Gustav Eberlein as a token of appreciation for the friendly welcome that the South American country had given them. In 2012 the fountain was restored and lighting was installed.
