Fugawi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fugawi was the brand name for GPS software from Northport Systems Inc., founded in 1995 and based in Toronto , Canada .

The main product of the Fugawi series was the Fugawi Global Navigator , which enables route planning and real-time navigation (requires a GPS receiver ) on land, water and air. The software also supports the scanning and calibration of paper maps, which can then be used digitally. The Fugawi Global Navigator runs on PCs from Windows XP. There is the additional software PathAway for the PDA . In addition to offering its own digital maps, the software supports numerous common map formats. Installed on a PDA, the user is independent of the map supply, in contrast to GPS handheld devices, on which mostly only the manufacturer's maps can run. Fugawi supports the loading of waypoints , routes and tracks onto or from the handheld GPS device.

The product line also included software for leisure and professional use for land and sea navigation, street navigation and military applications.

Fugawi, together with its competitor QuoVadis, was the market leader in this software segment. As of December 31, 2019, Fugawi Software / Northport Systems Inc. has ceased all operations.
