Funnel cloud
Under a funnel cloud , according to the English term also Funnel or cloud Funnel called, is defined as the visible portion of a rotating column of air with a more or less vertical rotation axis.
It usually extends downward as a conical or needle-shaped cloud formation in the updraft area of a shower or thunderstorm cell . Occasionally they are also observed on cumulus clouds with no precipitation . In the case of super cells, they often arise below or near a wall cloud .
Demarcation
In contrast to a tornado, a funnel cloud does not, by definition, describe the entire vortex, but only its visible part. The vortex itself continues below the funnel cloud and can therefore turn into a tornado at any time. It is important that the continuous rotation does not have to be visually recognizable through a “cloud tube” in order to exist. As soon as there is turbulence or damage to the ground under a funnel cloud, it is a tornado.
