Career

At the beginning of his coaching career he rose three times to the National League B , with Étoile Carouge, Urania Geneva and FC Meyrin. He then moved to Servette FC, with whom he was able to celebrate the greatest success of his career. In 1999 he won the championship that was decided on the last day of the match. In the 2000 season, Servette FC started rather poorly and he was dismissed in the preliminary round. After the departure of master trainer Marcel Koller, he moved to FC St. Gallen, where he was dismissed after 8 months due to unsuccessfulness.

He then moved to FC Lausanne-Sports. When the club was forcibly relegated, Gérard went into the 2nd league and led the club into the Challenge League (Switzerland's second highest league). This was followed by the move to Xamax, with whom he was promoted to the Super League (highest league in Switzerland) in the first season. As expected, Xamax had to fight to stay in the league, he was fired in the second half of the season, Xamax prevented relegation with the new coach Nestor Clausen. Even before the 2008/2009 season he was traded as coach of Servette FC, but he was only brought back to Servette FC as a replacement for unsuccessful Michel Sauthier after the very weak start to the season.
