Günther K. Reck (born around 1950) is a German biologist and professor of marine biology at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito .

Günther Beck studied biology with a focus on fishery biology at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel and graduated in 1973. There he also received his Ph.D. - Degree in marine science (1983). His dissertation was called The coastal fisheries in the Galápagos Islands, Ecuador: description and consequences for management in the context of marine environmental protection and regional development . He came to the Galapagos Islands for the first time in 1973/74 to work as a nature guide in the Galápagos National Park. He then carried out research in the field of inshore fishing (white fish and lobster) on the Galápagos Islands and was "Undersecretary of State for Fisheries" of the "National Fisheries Institute" (1975–1979) of Ecuador . He became advisor to the Secretary of State for Fisheries (1980) and as such a deputy member of the board of the Galapagos National Institute ( INGALA ).

He later worked as head of the Charles Darwin Research Station (1984 to 1989). He became the founding dean of the College of Environmental Sciences at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito (1990 to 1997).
