Charles Darwin Research Station

The Charles Darwin Foundation for the Galapagos Islands (CDF) is an international organization that aims to advance research and the protection of the Galápagos Islands .

CDF works in the Galapagos Islands natural biologically under a special regulation of the Ecuadorian government. The organization is part of a network of local actors and works closely with the Galapagos National Park Service (GNPS) .

The CDF was founded in 1959 with the help of IUCN , UNESCO and conservationists from around the world. Scientists, volunteers and students from many countries support the work of the CDF, but 90 percent of the board are Ecuadorians. The Charles Darwin Foundation is an International Non-Profit Association - a non-governmental organization - registered under Belgian law under number 371359.

The Charles Darwin Research Station ( Charles Darwin Research Station ) as the headquarters of the Foundation is located in Puerto Ayora on the Galapagos island of Santa Cruz , Ecuador , and is used to operate scientific research and promote environmental education. The station is home to a team of over 100 scientists, teachers, volunteers, science students, and support staff.

In 2002 the station received the International Cosmos Prize .
