Gōrei

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under Gorei ( Jap. 号令 ) is defined as a command . In Japanese martial arts the word describes the practice of a group of martial arts students under the guidance of a master, i.e. collective training in martial arts.

In Japan there have always been large martial arts schools where collective training has been held. In the Okinawan martial arts, collective training was uncommon until the early 19th century. Masters accepted few students and seldom taught them at the same time. It is said that Master Higashionna Kanryō from the Naha te was the first to introduce collective training in Okinawa.
