G-Link over a satellite receiver

A G-Link connection enables DVD hard disk recorders to control set-top boxes using an infrared signal and thus continue to use an integrated Electronic Program Guide (EPG) despite the interposition of a set-top box between recorder and television signal. The G-Link is an infrared transmitter that is placed in front of the infrared receiver of the set-top box so that the recorder can switch the set-top box to the program intended for recording. Ultimately, this is an improvised solution to the problem that programs that first have to be decrypted cannot be received and recorded by recorders that do not have a corresponding internal receiver.
