Main Directorate for the Fight against Organized Crime

The Main Directorate for the Fight against Organized Crime in Bulgaria ( Bulgarian Главна дирекция за борба с организираната престъпност ; short: Главна дирекция за борба с организираната престъпност ; in short: ГДвна ГДБОП; often a specialized Main Police Department, part of the Bulgarian Ministry of Interior. She is responsible for the operational investigation and countermeasures against the criminal activities of local and international criminal structures.

The GDBOP was created after the turnaround in Bulgaria in 1990 and was formed from the Sixth Department of the Bulgarian State Security ( Committee for State Security ), which had existed until then . With the establishment of the State Agency for National Security (DANS / bulg. ДАНС) on January 1, 2008, the GDBOP was integrated into DANS and dissolved as an independent authority.

Structures

The GDBOP was formed from the following predecessor structures in accordance with the Law on the Ministry of the Interior :

  • National Service for the Fight against Organized Crime (NSBOP; bulg. Национална служба "Борба с Организираната Престъпност"; short: НСБОП)
  • the regional subdivisions of the NSBOP in the district police headquarters (RSBOP; bulg. Регионални Звена за Борба с Организираната Престъпност; bulg. РЗБОП).

To fulfill its tasks, the GDBOP carries out independent operations or in cooperation with other specialized operational law enforcement agencies. The work of the GDBOP is directed against organized crime activities related to:

  • Property, customs regime, monetary, financial, tax and security systems
  • terrorist activities
  • corruption
  • illegal trafficking in human beings
  • illicit trafficking in drug plants, narcotics and their precursors and analogues
  • illicit trafficking in explosives, firearms, NBC weapons, toxic and chemical substances, dual-use goods or technologies
  • Computer crime
  • intellectual property
  • Membership in criminal organizations who, through violence or threats of violence, enter into contracts from which they take advantage
  • Organizing or participating in games of chance
