GESTIS-Stoffenmanager is made available as an online tool by the Institute for Occupational Safety and Health of the German Social Accident Insurance (IFA). It offers support in getting started with the risk assessment . The aim of this is to identify and evaluate specific hazards in activities involving hazardous substances and to define and review protective measures. GESTIS-Stoffenmanager prioritizes the inhalation and dermal hazards during activities with hazardous substances and estimates the inhalation exposure quantitatively using non-measurement technology.

In the Technical Rule for Hazardous Substances (TRGS) 400 "Risk assessment for activities involving hazardous substances", GESTIS-Stoffenmanager is described in Section 5.1 "Information Sources" as " Further relevant information source accessible to employers with reasonable effort for the determination of the substance properties, for the determination of activity-specific hazards and the resulting protective measures ”is recommended.

construction

GESTIS-Stoffenmanager offers two options for risk assessment:

  • With the help of "risk prioritization", small and medium-sized companies in particular are supported in the risk assessment of inhalation and dermal exposure of employees during activities with hazardous substances according to TRGS 400. Health hazards caused by hazardous substances are identified and prioritized and the establishment of effective protective measures to reduce them is supported. The risk prioritization primarily provides an introduction to the risk assessment, especially for substances for which no limit values or measurement procedures are available or for prioritizing many workplaces. Users can save up to 35 products and risk assessments online.
  • The "quantitative exposure estimation" is an instrument for the non-technical quantitative estimation of the inhalation exposure in mg / m³ analogous to TRGS 402. The underlying exposure model "Stoffenmanager" is described in chapter R.14 of the technical guidelines ( REACH ) as "Tier 1 +" - Model recommended, ie "Stoffenmanager" is officially recognized by the European Chemicals Agency ECHA as an instrument under REACH.

In addition to supporting the risk assessment, GESTIS-Stoffenmanager also offers the option of creating and exporting a list of hazardous substances and operating instructions. Access is via the HTTPS protocol and all you need is a valid email address to create an account.
