GM-12

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A GM-12 is a destructible missile for meteorological purposes that, once its mission has been completed , can be broken up into harmless small fragments with the help of explosive foils built into the body of the missile. Such a rocket has the advantage that it can also fall over inhabited areas without causing damage to property or personal injury.

The experimental rocket of the Kunststofftechnische Studiengesellschaft mbH (KTS) in Bonn-Beuel was 1.85 m long, had a takeoff weight of 23 kg, a diameter of 0.116 meters, a burning time of 2.25 seconds and a peak height of 12 kilometers. It may have been the only destroyable missile that has ever flown.

However, there are major problems in disassembling the metal parts necessary for the nozzle. Therefore, there was no series production of destructible missiles. A destructible missile was also being worked on in the USA.
