Grêmio Recreativo Escola de Samba Portela (abbreviated: GRES or GRES Portela) is together with the Estação Primeira de Mangueira u. a. one of the most traditional samba schools in Rio de Janeiro . She first took part in the Rio Carnival in 1929 .
