Forklift tires

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Special forklift tires are used for forklift trucks because, unlike cars or trucks, there are no damping spring elements such as B. struts or shock absorbers are installed, which would affect the stability. There is only suspension here via the tire foam and the driver's seat.

Which type of tire is best for a forklift truck depends on many important factors. The most important are the usage and environmental conditions such as B .:

  • the required load capacity of the truck,
  • required damping properties according to the condition of the road surface,
  • the maximum possible tire dimensions,
  • the maximum permissible floor load.

Types of tires

tire

The pneumatic tires have good suspension properties and low ground pressure. However, they require permanent monitoring of the air pressure and can fail even with a minor damage .

This can result in additional threats to stability, to which floor conveyors are always exposed due to moments of inertia and leverage during travel and storage.

Only tires with retaining rings can be used with pneumatic tires and a flap and of course a tube must also be used. It is also possible to switch from pneumatic to solid rubber tires, provided the rim allows this, whereby the rings can still be used or a tire with a clip is used.

Solid rubber tires

The advantages of solid rubber tires are puncture resistance and a high load capacity. In addition, the lack of profile ensures that fewer foreign bodies can be picked up by the tire.

The disadvantages are the low suspension and the resulting higher stress on the vehicle, driver, load and floor. Solid rubber tires, also known as bandages , are therefore generally only used in halls with a level floor.

One-piece or two-piece rims are available for solid rubber tires . In the case of one-piece rims, tires with clips or with retaining rings are generally used; that is, if the tires have a clip, then rings are not required and vice versa.

With two-piece rims, standard tires are pressed in without a clip.

Super elastic tires

The super-elastic tires are solid tires with a multi-layer structure and profile. Since they are not filled with air, they are in principle also puncture-proof.

Super elastic tires, which are also called SE tires, are slightly harder than pneumatic tires, but much softer than solid rubber tires. The shocks and vibrations generated when driving over bumps can at least be attenuated by super-elastic tires.

Public road transport

If forklifts are to be used on public roads in Germany, a corresponding profile is required according to the road traffic regulations - as is the case with other vehicles; therefore, super-elastic tires can still be used at speeds <25 km / h; From 25 km / h pneumatic tires with tread are required.
