Gabriel Caballero (born February 5, 1971 in Santa Fe ) is a former Mexican soccer player of Argentine origin, who mostly played in midfield .

Life

Caballero began his professional career at the Argentine club Central Córdoba de Rosario , where he was under contract between 1989 and the end of 1993. He then moved to the Chilean club Deportes Antofagasta , where he played in 1994 and 1995 and in whose ranks he became the top scorer of the Chilean league in 1995 . He then went to Mexico, where he stayed until the end of his active career and thus for a total of 15 years. First he played in the Mexican Primera División for Santos Laguna , with whose team he won the championship in the winter of 1996 and six months later became the top scorer of the Mexican football league. Most of the time, however, he played for CF Pachuca , with whom he won another five championship titles.

National team

Caballero made his debut in the dress of the Mexican national team on March 13, 2002 in a 4-0 win against Albania. The highlight of his international playing career, which lasted only three months but comprised eight games, was his participation in the 2002 World Cup , in which he was used in the three preliminary round matches of the Mexicans. His quarter of an hour in the last group match against Italy (1-1) on June 13, 2002 was also his last appearance in the ranks of the national team.
