Gabriele Steinfatt

Gabriele Steinfatt (born 1977 in Lower Saxony ) is a German lawyer. She has been a judge at the Court of the European Union since September 1, 2019 .

Life and work

From 1996 Gabriele Steinfatt studied German and French law at the Saarland University in Saarbrücken. At the Université Robert Schuman in Strasbourg, she received the Maîtrise en droit and the Certificat de droit européen in 2000 . She passed her first state examination in law in 2002. At the Europa-Institut of Saarland University, she completed a postgraduate course in “European Integration”. The legal clerkship at the Saarbrücken Higher Regional Court was followed in 2005 by the second state examination. In October 2005 she became a judge at the Administrative Court of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen , and in July 2018 at the Higher Administrative Court of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen . In between was her doctorate in 2011 with the dissertation The impartiality of judges in Europe in the light of the case law of the European Court of Human Rights at the University of Saarland. In May 2019 she was appointed judge at the Court of the European Union in Luxembourg. Her six-year term began on September 1, 2019.
