Gaius Settidius Firmus
Gaius Settidius Firmus (full name form Gaius Settidius Gai filius Pupinia Firmus ) was a member of the Roman knighthood ( Eques ) living in the 1st century AD . Individual stations of his career are known through an inscription. His career is shown in the inscription in ascending order.
Life
The usual military career for a member of the knighthood, the Tres militiae , actually consisted of three management positions, of which Firmus only completed two. First he took over the leadership of the Cohors IV Thracum Syriaca as prefect . He then served as a tribune in the Legio V Macedonica .
Then he applied for a Quaestur . By being elected Quaestor urbanus , he rose from the knighthood ( ordo equester ) to the senatorial class ( ordo senatorius ). The time at which Firmus was promoted to senatorial status is uncertain. The reigns of Claudius (41–54), Nero (54–68) or Vespasian (69–79) come into question.
Origin and family
Firmus was inscribed in the Pupinia tribe and came from Pula , where his tombstone with the inscription was also found. The suffect consul of 112, Titus Settidius Firmus, was probably either his son or grandson.

Remarks
- ↑ Ségolène Demougin believes it is likely that Firmus became a senator during the reign of Claudius.
