Galoshes

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Simple rubber galoshes. To save space, galoshes can be folded in during transport.

Galoshes are overshoes that are slipped over the actual shoes when necessary (e.g. slush) to protect them. Since they are mostly made of rubber , they are easy to put on and take off due to the elastic material.

Disposable overshoes, on the other hand, are worn to protect sensitive areas from contamination.

use

Galoshes

The purpose of galoshes is to protect the actual footwear from dirt and moisture as well as better traction compared to leather soles, which become slippery when wet. In this respect galoshes are almost exclusively of working commuters used in the cold and wet seasons. Galoshes have long been in use in North America, but less so in Europe. In Europe, they are mainly used by builders, architects, veterinarians etc. who have to stay in a more polluted environment for a short time.

By using galoshes, the wearer saves himself from soiling his well-kept shoes when entering construction sites or farms - which would otherwise be in stark contrast to the rest of the well-kept clothing - unnecessarily laborious cleaning and possible damage to the shoes, as well as dirtying the subsequently clean Environment. In addition to their footwear, commuters also use it to protect their feet against moisture and cold.

Galoshes are available in different (double) sizes and shapes (models for loafers , for boots , for lace-up shoes , etc.). These overshoes are also available for women's shoes (e.g. pumps ).

Disposable overshoes

Disposable overshoes

Before entering clean rooms , operating theaters, special isolation wards and reverse isolation rooms , disposable overshoes are pulled over the work shoes to protect these areas from contamination with microorganisms or contamination from dust and dirt particles. They consist of a plastic cover with an elastic band. In the case of highly contagious infectious diseases, they are used to prevent the spread of pathogens. Therefore, after a single use, they must be disposed of in the designated place.
