history

The GSRP was a Marxist opposition movement formed around 1980 by "Dr." Gibril "Pengu" George , a disaffected businessman.

After a plot against the government was discovered in October 1980, it was banned together with the Movement for Justice in Africa-Gambia (MOJA-G) and went underground. From the underground, the coup of July 30, 1981 was carried out together with the members of the MOJA-G under the leadership of Kukoi Samba Sanyang . The coup against the government in which George was killed failed. The opposition movement ceased to exist.
