Modern Gandolfi floor camera: Variant 4x5 made of walnut wood

Gandolfi was a traditional British manufacturer of high-quality large format cameras , especially of the walking floor camera type .

The Gandolfi company was founded in 1885 by Louis Gandolfi (1864-1932) in Westminster (London) , later relocated to Peckham (1913-1982) and then to Berwick St Leonard , Salisbury , Wiltshire (Gandolfi Ltd.). Louis Gandolfi manufactured cameras for the British government, e. B. to equip prisons . In 1928, for health reasons, he handed the company over to his sons Arthur (born July 4, 1906, † January 22, 1993), Frederick (1904–1990) and Thomas (1890–1965), who continued the business in the style of their father , namely as a small craft business with mostly individual production according to customer requirements. The family business was sold in 1982 and manufactured floor-to-ceiling cameras to the end, both in the classic wood- brass style and using modern techniques and materials (e.g. for the Variant models). The Gandolfi company stopped production in April 2011.
