Fabre Gantry

The Ganterie Fabre also Maison Fabre is a French glove factory that has existed since 1924 in Millau in the Aveyron department in southern France.

history

The founder, Étienne Fabre, learned the trade of glove maker at the age of 16. Since the prospects for his job were bad at the beginning of the 20th century, he went to Algeria to do his military service there. There he rose to the rank of sergeant in the mounted police force.

At the age of 33 Fabre took up his profession again and founded his own company in 1924 in what was then the most important city of the glove industry with 62 companies. After Fabre's death in 1941, his twin sons took over the family business, but it did not flourish again until 1947. Fabre and his wife Rose made the products known around the world through sales trips. Rose worked with various fashion houses in Paris and was so successful that up to 350 people were permanently employed in the Fabres family business.

Since the 1970s, the Maison Fabre, under the direction of the founder's grandchildren, has been able to counter the crisis in the craft by expanding the product range and renovating the production facilities. The designers of the various products include the stylists Zina de Plagny, Lutz and the Austrian Michaela Bürger, who works in Paris, and Chantal Tomass. Maison Fabre produces once to measure, but outsourcing part of the production to other companies .

Maison Fabre works closely with some of France's major department stores and can count on increasing exports. Today, 90 people are still employed at Maison Fabre.
