Garduña is the name of a secret criminal organization possibly later invented in Spain during the late Middle Ages. If they actually existed, the Garduña are said to have been active primarily in, but also outside of, prisons. It earned its income through robbery, hostage-taking, arson and contract killings. It is said to have been founded in 1417 and to have given itself its own statutes in Toledo in 1420 .
