Garfinny Bridge

Garfinny Bridge ( Irish Droichead na Gairfeanaí ) is a restored medieval bridge on the Dingle Peninsula in County Kerry . It crosses the Garfinny River near the village of Flemmingstown and has been declared a National Monument as the only bridge in Ireland to date .

The three meter high bridge from the 14th or 15th century is made of almost unprocessed natural stone . The current arch of the bridge is a 19th century reconstruction.

The bridge is popularly known as the Rainbow bridge . Local tradition reports that the English army marched over them in 1580 under Lord Gray de Wilton (1536–1593) in the course of the second Desmond rebellion for the massacre of Dun an Öir (Ard na Caithe / Smerwick).
