Gargunnock House

Gargunnock House is a mansion near the Scottish village of Gargunnock in the Stirling Council Area . The building was included in the Scottish Monument List in 1971 in the highest monument category A. The associated pigeon tower, the stables and the sundial are classified separately as Category B structures.

history

Over the centuries, Gargunnock House has been expanded and redesigned several times. The oldest fragment is a tower house with an L-shaped floor plan of the late 16th century, the Seton of Gargunnock built. During the 17th century, the west wing was added under James Campbell, 3rd of Glentirran, so that a roughly Z-shaped floor plan was created. Further structural measures followed in the course of the 18th century.

Gargunnock House is isolated a few hundred meters east of Gargunnock. The south facade of the three-story mansion, which was built in 1794, has a classicistic design with a triangular gable . Originally there was a spiral staircase in the corner of the building. The current staircase dates from the middle of the 18th century.
