Gasindi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gasindi also Gasindii , Kisindi , Gasindo , Gisindo or Gisindi ( Old High German for " servants ") were personal followers of the king in the Lombards - and later in the Franconian Empire , from whom the holders of court offices ( gasindi regis ) and the leading officials, the nobility , emerged .

In Gasindi there is the Old High German sendan or are for “way”; accordingly, it originally meant companions or travelers. Gasindi were apparently always free . If they were armed on royal orders, they could not be charged with what had been committed.

The Gasindi as a follower of the Lombards changed more and more to a vassalage under the Carolingians , characterized by a structure of protection, service, maintenance and loyalty obligations.
