The restaurant "Zur Fähre" is a small building complex with a restaurant in the Magdeburg district of Westerhüsen . The southern part of the development was a listed building , but was largely demolished in 2016.

The houses are on the main street of Westerhüsens at the addresses Alt Westerhüsen 155 (southern part) and Alt Westerhüsen 156 (northern part with restaurant). The name "Zur Fähre" refers to the Elbe ferry Westerhüsen, a little further east .

History and architecture

Originally there was a Kossatenhof on the property , the small house of which was on the north side of today's Kieler Straße . A stable building on the south side of the property was converted into a residential building by the innkeeper Martin Curio in 1859 . Two new stables were also built. One in the middle of the property and a horse stable on the east side. Another residential building was built facing the main street.

In 1873 the property was divided, with the two southern residential buildings becoming 155 and the northern buildings 156 . In the 156, as it is today, an inn was operated. A project that existed in 1874 to build a dance hall that would fill the entire garden was not implemented. To the east of the inn, however, a room was built in 1876.

In the same year a bakery was set up in the southernmost house and a smelter in the middle residential building . After an old stable was demolished in 1890, a new stable building was built in the northeast corner. In 1905, both plots were enlarged towards the main street, while maintaining a uniform alignment . On the northern property, part of the old house was demolished in order to be able to set up a large dining room on the ground floor that still exists today.

In 1905 a two-story, uniform front building with a round arched passage was built on the southern property. There is a curved gable above the passage of the now listed building. The seven-axis facade is designed in Art Nouveau forms . The building is covered with a gable roof .

The southern part stood empty for many years and was in great need of renovation. Due to a security order from the building supervision, the southern part was demolished and removed from the monument register in 2016. Only some of the walls on the ground floor have been preserved in this part (as of 2017).
