Gates Scholarship

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Gates Cambridge Scholarships were established as honorary scholarships by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in 2000 with a foundation volume of 210 million US dollars . The aim of these scholarships is to enable outstanding students from all over the world (excluding the UK ) to undertake postgraduate studies at Cambridge University (for one year to a maximum of three or four years).

Approximately 100 new Gates Scholars are selected each year (around 40% of them from the US). The selection criteria are rigorous and include excellent academic and intellectual performance, leadership potential and commitment through talent and knowledge to improve the living conditions of others. The stated goal of the foundation is to create a “network of future leaders” that spans the world and deals with global problems (such as social inequality, health, technology or learning).

Although much younger, the Gates Scholarships in goal setting are the prestigious Rhodes scholarship to the University of Oxford similar.
