Gerald Gazdar

Gerald Gazdar (born February 24, 1950 ) is a British linguist .

In 1970 he received his bachelor's degree from the University of East Anglia . He received his master's degree from the University of Reading in 1972 , where he also completed his Ph. D. in 1976 . From 1975 Gazdar was a lecturer in linguistics at the University of Sussex . In 1985 he became professor of computational linguistics there and from 1988 to 1993 he was dean. In 2002 he retired.

Together with his colleagues Ewan Klein , Geoffrey Pullum and Ivan Sag , he developed the Generalized Phrase Structure Grammar .
