GeSHi ( Ge Neric S yntax Hi ghlighter) is a free software for syntax highlighting of source code of programming and markup languages (such as HTML ). The software was written in PHP and is used by numerous web applications such as phpBB , MediaWiki and DokuWiki . Over 200 different languages are supported.

history

GeSHi was originally developed by Nigel McNie to enable syntax highlighting for the phpBB board. After it was determined that there was a great demand for syntax highlighting outside of the phpBB board, GeSHi was further developed into a universally usable library.
