Local woody plants are the seeds and plants of woody plants that are considered local .

Seed production

Representation of the areas of occurrence of area-owned woody plants in Germany including country-specific subdivisions.

The harvesting of seeds from local trees is carried out from suitable harvest stands. Criteria for the designation of such stocks include a certain minimum size, a certain minimum age and also a certain minimum distance to non-territorial stocks.

Occurrence areas

For the commercial production and sale of local woody plants, Germany was divided into 6 occurrence areas, which was worked out in an overarching working group.

Germany is divided into the following 6 occurrence areas:

  1. North German Lowlands
  2. Central and East German low and hill country
  3. Southern German hills and mountains
  4. West German highlands and Upper Rhine Rifts
  5. Black Forest, Wurttemberg-Franconian hill country and Swabian-Franconian Alb
  6. Alps and Alpine foothills

Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and Brandenburg have made a further subdivision of the occurrence areas in their federal state.

Certification and accreditation

There are currently eight different certification systems for native trees, some of which work very differently. In order to ensure that the various certifiers meet certain minimum standards, the certification systems can in future be accredited by the German accreditation body. For this purpose, the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety created a corresponding specialist module.

Nationwide uniform harvest reference number

In order to enable traceability of the harvested parts of the area's own woody plants up to the harvest stand, each woody part will in future be provided with a reference number. The harvest reference number is made up as follows:

Country code (two digits) Harvest herd number (10 digits) Harvest reference number (17 digits)
Woody (three digits)
Occurrence area (two-digit)
Crop stock (three digits)
Certification body (two digits) ID number (7 digits)
Harvest year (two digits)
Harvest / mix (single digit)
Current harvest or mixture in this harvest year and per harvest stand and certification body (two-digit)
