Courtesy stamp

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A courtesy stamp is a cancellation of a postage stamp at the request of a collector. The affected stamp is not used for postal purposes. First day stamps are not considered to be courtesy stamps , as these are made by an official body without a special request from the collector.

Such stamps are often requested, especially on special dates (so-called schnapps numbers , for example August 8, 2008 ). Another case of courtesy cancellation are the postmarks of special post offices (such as the Austrian Christmas post office Christkindl ).
