Yare prison

The Yare prison ( Cárcel de San Francisco de Yare ) is located in San Francisco de Yare in the Venezuelan state of Miranda .

There are two building complexes: Yare I and Yare II. Both centers are now overcrowded. Yare I was built in 1984. Yare II was built between 1997 and 1998. Yare I was designed for 750 inmates but has over 1153 inmates. Both centers are located near the village of San Francisco de Yare.

In June 2011, 19 prisoners were killed in Yare during rioting. At the end of August 2012, at least 25 inmates died in new protests.
