Secret protection office of the German Bundestag

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The secret protection office of the German Bundestag denotes a room in which the Bundestag's classified information of the top secret or top secret level can be viewed. Certain documents may only be viewed by parliamentarians there. It is currently in the Marie-Elisabeth-Lüders-Haus .

Premises

The secret protection office or secret registry is located on the 5th floor of the Marie-Elisabeth-Lüders-Haus in Berlin. The building assigned to the Bundestag also houses the Scientific Service and other institutions of the Bundestag.

Insight for parliamentarians

Parliamentarians can inspect files of the various German governments classified as secret. All files of the Chancellery are stored there . The creators of the files decide what is classified as SECRET or TOP SECRET . You can also subsequently obtain a classification as classified information . A downgrading of confidentiality, on the other hand, is very rare. According to the rules of procedure of the Bundestag , members of the Bundestag are basically entitled to inspect all files that are in the custody of the Bundestag or its committees. The Parliament's secret protection regulations apply to things that are locked. The members of special committees, e.g. B. Committees of inquiry into political affairs and disputes are entitled to inspect the relevant files. Other MPs have to get approval from the President of the Bundestag .

Secrecy levels

Different degrees of secrecy are distinguished. It is not permitted to take classified information of the STRENG GEHEIM and GEHEIM levels out of the rooms of the Bundestag.

Conflicts

Again and again, Members of Parliament find themselves in difficult situations, as they can sometimes see classified documents but are not allowed to make the information public. For example, Beate Müller-Gemmeke appealed against the secrecy of a document that documented the Federal Employment Agency's testing activities at Amazon's temporary employment agencies .
