Ghost westerns
Geister-Western was a booklet series published by Bastei-Verlag from 1975 to 1976 , which combined the genres of western and horror novels .
The series was looked after by Helmut Rellergerd alias Jason Dark until issue 20 , after which Karl Wasser, editor of the Western series at Bastei, took over. The series, like the series of horror westerns previously started by Marken-Verlag, was unsuccessful with readers and was discontinued after 30 issues. Jochen Bärtle as well as Uwe Schnabel attribute this to a failed genre mix. Structurally, it was a question of westerns with horror elements, which neither the (mostly adult) western readers nor the (mostly young) horror fans could satisfy.
The booklets appeared fortnightly in the normal booklet format (15.5 cm × 22.5 cm, 68 pages). The price was 1.20 DM.
