Joint rhinitis

Joint rhinitis is a colloquial term for a harmless accumulation of fluid in joints that usually heals without consequences as a result of an infection with viruses . The viral damage to the mucous membrane leads to an increased production of synovial fluid , which does not flow away and can only be broken down again slowly.

Children are mainly affected, often at the hip joint ( coxitis fugax ). The inflammation often causes severe symptoms (tenderness and restricted mobility), but usually subsides after a few days without special treatment.

If joint rhinitis occurs more frequently , an orthopedic and rheumatological investigation can be useful to rule out hip misalignment, significant cartilage damage and rheumatic disease.
