Armorial Gelre
The Armorial Gelre (also: Codex Gelre , Wappenbuch Gelre , Wappenbuch des Herold Geldern , Dutch: Wapenboek Gelre ) is a medieval book of arms .
It was laid out between 1369 and 1396 by the herald Claes Heinenzoon and Heynen (around 1345-1414, see here ). He carried the official name Gelre (German: Geldern ) because he was in the service of the Duke of Geldern .
In addition to poems and documents, the directory contains around 1,800 coats of arms of clerical and secular princes from Western, Eastern and Central Europe and their feudal people . The Armorial Gelre is an important medieval source of older heraldry .
