The vegetable battle is a non-violent battle between residents of the Nordstadt and Linden districts in Hanover , which took place for the first time in 2003 with around 45 participants.

The two parties meet annually in September on the Sleeping Beauty Bridge , which lies between the two parts of the city, to throw mostly rotten vegetables at each other. The meetings have no violence-oriented background and refer rather sarcastically to the local patriotism of the two former working-class neighborhoods. The 2003 and 2004 battles were registered as demonstrations and took place with city permission. Then those involved cleaned the bridge themselves. In the following years there were disputes about the cleaning and the associated costs of around 700 euros. In 2009 the city of Hanover took over cleaning the bridge.

The process of the vegetable battle is similar to the Berlin vegetable battle between the districts of Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain.
