Gemmi-Wägeli

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Gemmi-Wägeli was used around 1900 as a single-axle wagon over the Gemmi pass from Kandersteg to Leukerbad .

The Gemmi-Wägeli was invented in 1883 by a Bernese hotelier. It shows that at that time every opportunity was used to transport tourists. There was only room for one person on the wagon. The vehicle was pulled backwards up the pass by a draft animal. The "coachman" ran alongside the car and received CHF 20 per trip.
